Who: See Below
A few doses of reality before we dive in to some classic provincial material:
Chad Hartman commented that Gopher football coach Tim Brewster did not show an “iota” of evidence that he was a good game day coach and the first year was “a total disaster”. He also pointed that “we (Minnesota press) are the leader in America in tracking down local connections”.
Responding to Dave Lee loving up Viking RB Adrian Peterson’s Pro Bowl performance, Sid Hartman reminded his colleague that his last four games were “not good”.
Twins beat writer Lavelle E. Neal demonstrated some candor by characterizing the signing of pitcher Livan Hernandez as “a misallocation of funds”.
On KSTP radio Patrick Ruesse said, “I don’t want to listen to those guys whine on the radio” regarding the WCCO broadcast of Gopher mens basketball games after a bad loss to Illinois.
And now for some provincial pronouncements:
Coming off a close loss to the Celtics, Sid Hartman told Wolves Coach Randy Whitman that he had “never seen a team improve like yours over the last two weeks”.
Despite early in the month KFAN’s Jeff Dubay claiming “I’m kind of a need to see it to believe it guy” he gave the locals the benefit of the doubt with these takes:
-Prior to the House committee testimony “Clemens telling the truth is a more likely scenario”
-Regarding Gopher mens basketball “Think we’ll be better next year than this year”
-Regarding the Gopher defensive coordinator opening “I would assume Brewsters going to make a pretty solid hire”
-Speculated further on Gopher hoops with “Al Nolen will be an elite Big Ten Player” (didn’t he also once suggest Glen Mason was an “elite” college football coach?)
-Asked by partner Paul Allen if the Gophers would beat Illinois at home he immediately responded with “Yes”! (Score: Illinois 84 Minnesota 60)
FSN’s Kevin Gorg sold some hope with this comment about the Wild “great chance to beat the Red Wings tonight” (Final score Detroit 3 Minnesota 2)
Beat writer Myron Metcalf implied the Gopher hoops team overachieved during the non-conference schedule
Mike Morris and Justin Conzimius hyped up the new Gopher football recruiting class together
Mark Rosen played the “one of us” card by suggesting Kevin Garnett was the leading candidate for NBA MVP while Corey Cove played it straight with his opinion of Kobe Bryant.
An intrepid fan informed us that Wolves analyst Jim Peterson suggested the team was 6-7 deep off the bench and “we have twelve guys that can play”.
On February 9, at approximately 4:30 p.m. a KSTP 1500 radio talking head (haven’t determined the name yet) predicted that Gopher men’s basketball would make the NCAA tournament and win a first round game.
Runner Up: He ever so slowly gets closer and closer to earning that elusive Homer of the Month award. Dan “Common Man” Cole repeated his defense of Kevin McHale’s tenure by suggesting many other teams had a high opinion of Stephon Marbury (“everybody hailed Steph as spectacular”). The problem with that analysis is that most other teams have not had so many other missteps over the past decade as this front office.
Winner: Speaking with Gopher Coach Tim Brewster about the signing of Bud Grant’s grandson out of Eden Prairie High School, Dave Lee blurted out, “It’s fun to see the legend live on!”
Bottom Line: Is there a more unqualified play by play announcer in Division 1 football than radio Dave? |
